Infrared photography is used to take photos of the land using special film that is sensitive to a certain portion of the light spectrum. It can be used to see changes in the environment like forest, wetlands, bays, etc. There are also other uses for infrared like finding sites with toxic chemicals or roofs that have been damaged.
